  • A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: THE “SARAH’S OIL” KANSAS CITY PREMIERE

On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the grand lobby of Union Station, Kansas City, came alive with the buzz of Hollywood glamour, historic resonance, and community pride as the special advance screening of Sarah’s Oil illuminated the night. Hosted at the station’s famed B&B Extreme Screen theatre, this event offered a first look at the powerful new film ahead of its nationwide release.

The red carpet shimmered as lead actress Naya Desir‑Johnson arrived in a full-length pink tulle gown, paired with ivory gloves and a sheer wrap, instantly turning heads and drawing photographers lining the entrance.

The audience included descendants of Sarah Rector, the Oklahoma-born entrepreneur whose life served as the foundation of the film, and Kansas City community leaders. Their presence underscored the depth of the story: not just a film premiere, but a community celebration of legacy.

Sarah’s Oil chronicles Sarah Rector’s incredible journey: born in Oklahoma’s Indian Territory in 1902, the 11-year-old’s land struck oil in 1913, making her one of the wealthiest African-American young girls of her time. The film traces the triumphs and tribulations of her legacy, including how her family’s story intertwines with broader themes of race, land, inheritance, and empowerment.

Kansas City holds a special place in that legacy. Rector moved to Kansas City in her teens, and her generational impact resonates in the city’s historic Black community. Hosting this premiere here wasn’t simply a matter of location—it was a celebration of roots.

Premiering nationwide on November 7, 2025, Sarah’s Oil extends an invitation to every audience: step into history, witness resilience reborn, and discover that legacy, like oil, is never lost — only waiting to be found.

Directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh and written by Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh, the film stars Naya Desir-Johnson as Sarah Rector, alongside Zachary Levi, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Kenric Green.

Produced by Kingdom Story Company and distributed by Amazon MGM Studios, Sarah’s Oil brings to life one of America’s most extraordinary true stories — a powerful reminder that faith, determination, and legacy can shape generations to come.
